    Sarah gazed at the fireworks that burst in colorful patterns against the dark sky. Instead, she only saw bombs. The war had ended many years past, but the marks it left were too vivid to ignore. She enrolled in a support program for veterans or perhaps for the victims of communal violence. Everyone had wounds that were not visible to the eye. They exchanged voices, water, and formed a trust in a gradual manner. There was no straightforward path to recovery, but Sarah drew power from their common ordeal. The battle in her head raged on, however, she discovered ways to help herself with compassion, acceptance and understanding, as well as the knowledge that she had allies. The wrap around her head and the pain in her chest were a feeble attempt to signify the greatest of struggles – the struggle to relearn how to exist over the passage of time.
