Maria every day waited for a letter from her husband who was at the war. Every day she made the effort of going through the mails but after some months optimism started growing dim. Unfortunately, her surrounding neighbors uttered sympathy but she was not willing to surrender. On one of those cold winter mornings, a soldier came to her and handed her a letter. It was the last letter written to her that was filled with love and bravery by her husband. Maria was heartbroken but such was the consolation she found in him. She waited, remembered him, and placed flowers along the side of the road to signify a love that war could destroy but could never conquer.
