“You can love someone with all your heart, but sometimes that’s not enough. Sometimes, you have to let them go, and find your own happiness.” – N.A. Shah
He saw her for the first time at his cousin’s wedding. She was wearing a red saree and a smile that lit up the whole hall. She was his cousin’s friend, and he was instantly drawn to her. He wanted to talk to her, to get to know her, to make her laugh. But he was too shy, too nervous, too afraid of rejection. He only managed to exchange a few words with her, and then she was gone.
He couldn’t stop thinking about her. He searched for her on social media, and found her profile. He followed her, liked her posts, and commented on her photos. He hoped she would notice him, but she never did. She had hundreds of followers, and he was just one of them. He felt invisible, insignificant, hopeless.
He kept his feelings to himself. He didn’t tell anyone, not even his best friend. He thought it was a silly crush, that it would fade away with time. But it didn’t. It only grew stronger, deeper, more painful. He loved her, but she didn’t know. She didn’t care. She didn’t love him back.
He watched her from afar, as she lived her life. He saw her graduate from college, get a job, travel the world. He saw her date other guys, break up with them, move on. He saw her happy, sad, angry, excited. He saw her in every mood, every season, every moment. He saw her, but she never saw him.
He waited for her, as he wasted his life. He didn’t pursue his dreams, his passions, his goals. He didn’t date anyone, he didn’t make friends, he didn’t have fun. He only lived for her, and he only lived in his memories. He waited for her, but she never came.
He lost her, when she got married. He saw the invitation on her profile, and he felt his heart shatter. She was marrying someone else, someone who loved her, someone who made her happy. She was moving on, and he was left behind. He lost her, and he never had her.
He loved her, until the end of his days. He never forgot her, he never let go, he never moved on. He loved her, but she never knew. She never cared. She never loved him back.
