Cough and fever are the worst and they become worse in the winter. Currently, I am suffering from them. My mind right now is not full of ideas but a headache. Spending most of my time lying down, eyes closed. Eating healthy food, and wearing warm clothes. And at night, really feel fortunate that I have a roof over my head.
Aren’t these our basic needs?
Food, shelter and clothing.
Even animals need these, at least the first two.
But look at us running after more and more. We don’t even consider these three things bare minimum anymore, we believe that we are entitled to them.
But are we?
I don’t think so, because a lot of people don’t have roof over their heads. They fight to earn a day’s worth of food. Clothing, they don’t even care if they have it or not. They are struggling for survival.
Those of us who are born in the middle class or rich families will never understand their struggles or their mindsets. Because we have our own life to worry about. The middle class wants to get rich and the rich wants to get ultra-rich.
Any means necessary, even if it means hurting the poor, and taking their basic needs away from them.
Now I don’t want to give a speech because that would be hypocritical. I myself on good days want to improve my standard of living.
But on the days I am weak like now, I feel fortunate that on a winter night, I am not naked, I have warm clothes to wear. If I go to the kitchen I have food, and most of all I have four walls and a roof that I can at least call a shelter. Where I know I am safe and protected. Where I can sleep without a worry in the world.
I am not saying stop chasing better things. Because let’s be honest, nobody will listen. Even I won’t.
All I am saying is be grateful for what you have.
Just imagine all the luxuries will run out of the window when you are struggling for survival. Social status, reputation, image, competing with your friends silently, all these last while there is a sense of order around you.

Go into a warzone, or into the cold mountains. You realize the meaning of living. None of the luxuries matter there.
The most recent example was Covid. When people were willing to sacrifice everything to get better, to have something to eat.
You know the prayer some people do before eating food. About what they are grateful for. You don’t need to say it out loud. Just keep it in your heart when you are cursing yourself, or your family that you don’t live in luxury because of some shortcomings.
Look a little deeper and you will see you have everything you need to operate in this world.
Thank you for staying until the end!
