In a small village in India, there lived a wise old farmer named Ramu. Ramu had a beautiful farm filled with many fruit trees, but his favorite was a big, lush mango tree. Every summer, the tree would be full of juicy, golden mangoes, and the children from the village would come to enjoy the delicious fruit.
One year, as the mangoes ripened, some naughty children decided to pick the mangoes without asking Ramu. They threw stones at the tree to knock down the fruits. Ramu saw them but did not stop them. Instead, he quietly watched from a distance.
The next day, the children returned with more stones. This time, they hit the branches so hard that some of them broke. Ramu still did not say anything but continued to watch them.
The day after, the children came again, but as they were about to throw stones, they saw a sign that Ramu had put up.
“If you break the branches, the tree will not grow more mangoes.”
The children were puzzled. They had not thought about what would happen if they damaged the tree. Feeling guilty, they approached Ramu.
“We are sorry, Ramu Uncle. We did not mean to harm the tree. We just wanted the mangoes,” one of the children said.
Ramu smiled kindly and said, “I know you love mangoes, and I donβt mind sharing them with you. But remember, the tree needs its branches to grow more fruit. If you hurt it, there will be no more mangoes for anyone.”
The children understood their mistake and promised never to harm the tree again. From that day on, Ramu allowed the children to pick mangoes, but only with care. The mango tree continued to grow and give delicious fruit every summer.
The village became known for its sweet mangoes, and the children learned an important lesson about respecting nature.
