From charcoal to coal art, manga to thread painting, scrapbooking to digital art, vector art, digital scrapbooking, line art, perspective art, product art, animal art, fashion sketches, portrait, 3D art, watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, mixed media, collage, abstract, surrealism, pop art, impressionism, calligraphy, hand lettering, cartooning, caricature, comics, illustration, and countless other crafts…
I’ve tried them all!
Concepts like proportion, anatomy, negative space, composition, color theory, value, and contrast have been my constant companions.
My 12 backpacks (yes, you read that right!) are overflowing with drawings, art sketches, and memories. Each piece holds a story, a part of me.
Every year during Diwali cleaning, my mom tries to convince me to let go of the “old stuff.”
But I just can’t!
As a school kid, I’d draw 40-50 pieces daily. But life got busy, and the past four years have been a struggle to find time. Yet, every time I pick up a pencil or pen, I surprise myself.
people often complement me by saying “Oh! you are so lucky Man” and I’m like “Yeah! 19+ years of practice doesn’t count. Right !?”
Honestly, I think it’s 5% of talent and 95% of practice…and I worry that irregularity will fade my skills. In school, I saw improvement every four months. Now, it feels stagnant.
Going through old drawings recently brought tears to my eyes. Seeing how far I’ve come reminds me why hobbies matter.
You don’t do it for fame, money, or validation. You do it for yourself, your happiness. The satisfaction is unparalleled.
