Avoid Repeating Your Mistakes
“Mistake repeated more than once is a decision” says Paulo Coelho, Brazilian lyricist and novelist.
Tripping over the same rock, again and again is silliness. Repeated mistakes make you fall in a category of fools and causes damage in all facets of life. You are not given good opportunities and gradually you start lacking confidence. What’s the point if the lesson is not learnt? Not changing one’s behaviour, old habits, prioritizing the wrong things, feeling ashamed for seeking help, are some of the reasons for repeating the same mistakes. Wisdom lies in correction and not repetition.
How not to repeat mistakes
Discover what triggers your behaviour to do so. Try to avoid yourself to be in a situation or with a person who tempts you to do so. Find some alternative to replace your old behaviour. Like you reach late in the office often, because you get up late. Resist doing things which makes you awake till late night. Sit back and think about the last time you let yourself down by making a mistake. Once we identify our triggers we need to switch our routines, removing the old and inserting the new. Hang out at the health club instead of a bar. Go for improvement and not perfection. Don’t be in a rush, it takes time to forget old habits. Be honest to yourself by spotting your weaknesses and turning them into your strengths. Seeking help from experts is an added advantage. And lastly, learning from others’ mistakes is also a smart thing to do, so be observant. At the end of the day, you cannot allow your mistakes to become a pattern and keep you away from succeeding. Life is beautiful as it always gives us a chance to correct our mistakes.
