In a village surrounded by green forests, there lived a sparrow named Sia. Sia was a cheerful bird, but most importantly, she was admired for always being honest.

One bright morning, the village animals gathered at the forest centre for the annual Festival Contest. This year’s challenge was to find the shiniest pebble from the riverbank. The winner would be crowned the “Forest Star” and receive a basket of the juiciest fruits.
All the animals rushed to the river. Sia fluttered around, carefully observing the ground for a shiny pebble. After some time, she found a small, smooth pebble that sparkled in the sunlight. She was delighted and flew back to the contest to show her pebble.

As Sia was returning, she spotted a bird named Maggie holding the biggest, shiniest pebble she had ever seen. Maggie was showing to everyone about his find. But something seemed odd—Sia noticed that the pebble had a strange golden glint, unlike anything from the riverbank.
Sia decided to take a closer look. She asked softly, “Maggie, where did you find such a shiny pebble?”
Maggie hesitated, then said, “ just near the river like everyone else.”

But Sia’s sharp eyes caught a sight of something sticking out of Maggie’s wing. It was a golden coin! Sia realized that Maggie hadn’t found a pebble at all; he had picked up a coin from the village nearby.
Sia thought for a moment. Should she stay quiet, or should she tell the truth? After all, honesty was something she believed in deeply.

When it was time for the animals to present their pebbles, Sia stepped forward and said, “I have something to say.”
All eyes turned to her as she continued, “Maggie’s pebble is not from the river. It’s actually a coin from the village.”
Maggie felt ashamed and embarrassed. “I just wanted to win,” he admitted. “I’m sorry for lying.”
The forest elder owl, who was judging the contest, said , “Thank you for telling the truth, Sia. Honesty is more valuable than any prize.”

The elder then turned to Maggie. “You’ve learned an important lesson today. Remember, it’s always better to be truthful than to win unfairly.”
The contest continued, and Sia’s little shiny pebble was declared the winner. But more importantly, everyone in the forest learned that honesty makes you shine brighter than any treasure.

Sia was admired for her courage to be honest, even when it wasn’t easy. And Maggie became a better bird, always choosing honesty over tricks.
And so, the animals of the forest lived happily, guided by the golden rule: Honesty is the best policy.
