She waited near the little pond

    With smartly up-turned beak

While below her in the crystal water

The fish played hide and seek.

    The sun was rising steadily

    Above the azure sky

    At every creatures resting place

    Its shining rays did pry.

    Unmindful of the brilliant sun

    The little bird did fly

    Emerging from the water-wet

In her beak she held a fry.

Back she flew upon the branch

    And settled down again

    Her splendid plumage standing out

    Like a sparkling blue flame.

For many hours she waited there

    And sometimes, she did dive

For every hunter has to hunt

    In order to survive.

    That day among the trees

I watched her at her work

And learned behind every law of nature

    A valuable lesson lurks.

For oft in life we need something

    And waiting seems absurd

Let us take a while to think

And imitate – the patience of that bird.
