In the center of a thriving metropolis amidst skyscrapers of steel and glass, there was a charming small café called the Willow Nook. Its lights and even the smells of coffee made sure that people trooped in, regardless of background. Emma, a timid artist would often find herself in this café with a sketchbook in hand, forever drawing, forever warm and gentle.
It was one of those rainy days as she held a latte in her hand sipping slowly that an unfamiliar face entered the café. The stranger was all animated and high strung dressed very shabbily. He was tall messy hair and sheepish grin. “I apologize for barging in,” began the man with a rather bright countenance, looking around. As the café was packed to capacity and there wasn’t place for him, he noticed an unoccupied table near Emma and went towards it. “Do you mind if I sit here?” he inquired.
To Emma’s surprise, as well as interest, the male had a look of puzzlement which quickly turned into a sense of resolution, determination and excitement. “Um, sure!” she responded, her eyes wide with astonishment and such redness on her face.
“Thank you! I’m Jake,” he said and made himself comfortable and stared at her sketches. “These are incredible! You are really gifted.”
Emma beamed at his compliment and felt a rush of self-worth. “Thank you! I enjoy freezing time in the ever-changing city.”
As the rain continued pouring outside, the two talked and laughed for hours. They talked about their life stories, dreams and places they liked the most in the city. Emma found out that Jake was a musician and he jokingly told her that he would write a song about her artwork.
And then, Days crawled on and Jake was also a permanent residence to The Willow Nook bringing his guitar almost every day to sing for Emma while she was painting. They went around the city accomplishing the ordinary, such as a brightly decorated graffiti interiors of one of the nasty busy streets, a brilliant park with striking light contrast of the bright blue sky and feathered trees, and the private spaces of the café.
One night, with a setting sun glaring and the sky stunningly painted in shades of orange and rosy pink, Jake led Emma to the rooftop of his apartment. After surveying the view around and spotting the city lights beneath, he took out his guitar.
