The fate of Kenya’s Rigathi Gachagua is expected to be approved by parliamentarians

The move follows a historic vote last week in the National Assembly to oust Rigathi Gachagua

The Senate of the Kenyan parliament is expected to vote today Thursday to decide whether to remove Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from power in a political saga that has never happened in the country.

The Senate is expected to take its decision on the second day of the case to remove Deputy President William Ruto from power. The move follows a historic vote last week in the National Assembly’s executive council to oust Gachagua on 11 charges including corruption, abuse of power and ethnic politics.

The trial in the senate began Wednesday after the 59-year-old leader, also known as “Riggy G”, failed in several court cases to stop the procedure. The politician arrived in parliament today Thursday, shortly before the session opened and is expected to testify in his defense later.

Gachagua denies all charges, and no criminal case has been filed against him, but he will be removed from office according to the law, if the Senate approves his charges.
