On March 9th, 2024, Milyin witnessed something it had never seen before. Google's algorithm had dropped Milyin's traffic by 95% overnight.

Like many websites on the internet, Milyin too relied on traffic from Google for its reach and growth. Google released an algorithm update on 5th March, 2024, the results of which became visible on 9th March, 2024.

Calling it a bloodbath would be an understatement. In the after math, Milyin decided that over reliance on Google and other search engines was never a good idea.

Starting 12th March, 2024, we started a transition to become a social media platform. The ultimate goal was same - to help everyone create. Just the path had changed.

In other words we initiated a pivot of #Milyin from "search-first" platform to a "social-first" platform.

It started with launching an app, involved introduction of "socialization" tools such as Liked, Dislikes, and more.

I know most of you don't remember, so, here's a quick recap of what all changed since then:

    • New Home Page
    • Likes/Dislikes
    • App Launch
    • Streaks
    • Bookmarks
    • Referral Program
    • Improved Milyin Chat
    • Reworked Monetization
    • In-house Creation Interface
    • and more...

    The list goes on...

I am proud to say, that in February 2025, almost 11 months later, I am comfortable in calling ourselves a "Social Creation Platform".

Notably, as a Social Platform, we encourage, motivate, and flourish through inter-member socialization. Strong community, inter-personal relations, are our backbone now.

An year ago, we used to promote things like keyword research, keyword optimisation, competitive analysis, since those were critical for ranking on Google. Today we promote authentic, genuine, and unique Creations.

We are doing good on Google as well. But, our focus has shifted towards socialisation.

Although, I should clarify, it isn't a harsh stance against search, we are just slightly more biased towards the more human and more social aspect of Creations.

Our optimised algorithms on Milyin have made a massive change in promotion of unique, original, and authentic Creations as well on Home Page.

I will be covering the recent changes on Milyin in another Creation soon, but the purpose of this specific Creation was to spread some awareness about what changed at Milyin.

This is a start of a 3-part series called Discovering Milyin. The goal is to get people to understand Milyin better.

Having been on a creating hiatus for a long time, I intend to be consistent again, having rediscovered what works and what doesn't.

I am trying to have a different, more #social, and more Milyin-oriented style. Let's see how it goes.
