Once upon a time, in a forest by a river, there lived a clever crocodile named Cookie and a kind-hearted monkey named mandy. The two were strange friends, brought together by their shared love for ripe, juicy mangoes. Mandy lived on a mango tree near the riverbank, and Cookie often visited him, enjoying the sweet fruits that Mandy dropped into the water for him.
One day, Cookie’s cunning cousin, Crooky, came to visit. Crooky was not as friendly or kind as Cookie and always thought of tricking others to get what he wanted. When Crooky saw Cookie eating mangoes that Mandy had given him, he hatched a cunning plan.
“Why are you eating mangoes when a monkey’s heart must be even sweeter?” Crooky asked Cookie.
Cookie was shocked. “What do you mean?” he asked.
Crooky smiled cunningly. “Monkeys eat mangoes all the time, right? Their hearts must taste just like mangoes! If you trick that monkey into coming with you, youβll have a grand feast.”
Cookie didnβt like the idea, but Crooky kept pressuring him. After much hesitation, Cookie agreed to invite Mandy for a ride on his back, hoping to find another way out of this mess.
The next day, Cookie asked Mandy, “Would you like to visit my home across the river? Itβs a beautiful place with a special tree that has the sweetest mangoes you’ve ever tasted!”
Mandy, always eager for an adventure, agreed. He hopped onto Cookie’s back, and they began to cross the river.
In between the river, Cookie sighed and decided to confess. “Mandy, I have to tell you the truth. My cousin Crooky wants to eat your heart because he believes it tastes like mangoes. But I don’t want to hurt you. I donβt know what to do.”
Mandyβs quick wit saved the day. He replied dramatically , “Oh, Cookie! Why didnβt you tell me earlier? I left my heart back in the tree! Monkeys donβt carry their hearts with them.”
Cookie was confused. “You left your heart in the tree?”
“Of course!” Mandy said confidently. “Letβs go back, and Iβll give it to you.”
Cookie, relieved that he didnβt have to harm his friend right away, turned back and swam to the riverbank. The moment they reached the shore, Mandy jumped off Cookie’s back and climbed up his tree.
After reaching a safe place , Mandy called down, “Cookie, youβre my friend, but you let greed come in between our friendship. I trusted you, and you betrayed that trust. Iβll forgive you, but you must promise never to listen to your cousin again.”
Cookie felt ashamed and agreed. “Iβm sorry, Mandy. Iβll never let anyone convince me to harm a friend again.”
From that day on, Cookie and Mandy remained friends, but Cookie learned a valuable lesson about loyalty in any relationship .
As for Crooky, he went back to his own place, thinking about how “sweet” plans never worked out when honesty got in the way.
And so, Cookie and Mandy continued sharing mangoes and their friendship, proving that true friends always stick together.
Moral of the Story:
True friendship is built on trust, and it always triumphs over greed.
