    Chhath puja is perhaps the oldest Vedic hindu festival that is celebrated till today.It is considered to be one of the most powerful and significant festivals.

    According to hindu calendar chhath puja is celebrated on the sixth day of Kartik month and so it is also known as Surya shasthi, a four day long strict festival of abstinence and purity.

    Chhath puja is dedicated to the Sun God Surya, as it is thought that the sun is visible to every being and is the basis of life of all creatures on Earth. Along with the Sun God, Chhathi Maiya is also worshipped on this day.

    According to the belief,Sun has two wives,usha and pratyusha.

    This auspicious festival is crafted in such a way, which provides optimum absorption of calcium and vitamin D into the body, beneficial for the body.Chhath pooja helps in improving the immune system also.The four days long festival offers great mental peace to the devotees.

    At first ,it was celebrated mainly in north India.But now it has started to be celebrated in many parts of India and also outside India by the NRI’S.

    Chhath puja is dedicated to Sun God,which sustains life on the earth.It is performed to seek blessings from sun or Surya to live longer and prosper throughout the life.
