POPULAR HARRY POTTER CHARACTERS THAT I HATE

Have you ever wondered how someone’s favourite character, could be your most hated one? In this article, I would like to discuss about some such characters from the Harry Potter series, who seem to be universally beloved among the Harry Potter fandom; but I personally hate. I will also be providing my very valid reasons for disliking these characters.

    1.      Severus Snape:

After it was revealed that Snape was a double-agent, who was secretly working for Dumbledore and the Order; people somehow dismiss all his past actions. They often ignore his motivations for wanting to defeat Voldemort. It wasn’t out of a sense to do the right thing. He only left Voldemort after Voldemort killed Lily.

Even in school, Snape and his friends practice dark arts on the other students. He calls Lily, the woman he was and is supposedly in love with, a racial slur, in front of everybody; for the mere crime of standing up for him, when he was being bullied. He joins a blood-supremacist organization, whose goal is the genocide of muggles and muggle-born witches and wizards.

Even his feelings for Lily seem like an unhealthy obsession, rather than love. He doesn’t care about her happiness. He doesn’t care about James, Lily’s husband getting murdered. When he takes the photo of Lily, in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, he tears the part of the picture showing James and Harry.

He’s also the worst teacher ever. He bullies his students to the point of being the greatest fear of one of his students, Nevel. He’s also partial, and plays favourites.

    2.      Sirius Black:

Sirius Black is a bully. In Snape’s memory that we see in Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Sirius and James pick on Snape just because they are bored. Although Lupin later tells Harry that most attacks on Snape by James and Sirius, were a result of provocation; what we see in the actual text, is very much an unprovoked one. James and Sirius de-robe Snape in front of everybody, thereby humiliating him for their own amusement.

We also find out that Sirius told Snape how to get into the Shrieking Shack, through the Whomping Willow, in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban. This is the perfect example of irresponsible behaviour. He tells Harry that he did this to play a trick on Snape. But, this action of his, could have serious consequences. First, it could have led to Lupin being expelled, if anything had happened to Snape; as someone could have easily figured out that Lupin was a werewolf. If Snape would have been killed, or seriously injured, Lupin would be the one to be blamed for it. And even if he didn’t get blamed, Lupin would have never lived with the guilt of having hurt somebody. And anyway, though Snape is a horrible person, I’m sure he doesn’t deserve to die, or be turned into a werewolf.

Sirius is also extremely impulsive. I see this as him being selfish. He needed to try and stay out of danger, at least to fulfill his promise to Harry, of letting him spend the holidays with him. Harry really needed a stable adult figure in his life. But Sirius seems to care about leading a thrilling life, rather than taking care of Harry.

    3.      James Potter:

Like his friend Sirius, James is also a bully. We hear from Lupin that James changed his ways, which was the only reason that Lily agreed to go out with him. But the text also tells us that James still bullied Snape behind Lily’s back, even after they started dating.

In the scene he’s bullying Snape, when Lily tries to stop him, he forces her to go out with him, even using Snape to threaten her, even though she’s clearly not interested. There’s no textual evidence to show that he stopped his bullying. Lily even says that its not only Snape that James has bullied, he also hexes random students in the school hallways, for fun and entertainment. He’s also extremely arrogant, due to being popular in school, and definitely takes advantage of his popularity, to bully the other students who aren’t as fortunate as him.

    4.      Draco Malfoy:

The guy who is this popular only because of pretty privilege, Draco Malfoy is nothing more than a bully, blood-supremacist and a racist. He’s just a spoiled brat who shows his racism and elitism every chance he gets. He insults and degrades Harry, Ron and Hermione every opportunity he gets.

Even in the last book: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, he was not redeemed. He never regrets humiliating people based on their social status; or makes any sort of sacrifice. He remains a coward to the very end, and his sole goal is to save his own skin.

So, that was my list! What are your opinions on these characters? Do you have any unpopular Harry Potter opinions? Let me know!
