The power of healing through prayer

Meeting People in Need

Every day, we encounter people burdened with various illnesses, sufferings, and troubles. Some need good health, while others need food. Some need a bigger home, while others need love or even just a kind word from someone they hope to receive it from.

Following in Jesus’ Footsteps

When we want to understand the power of healing, we can look to what was written about Jesus: “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people” (Matthew 4:23).

Understanding and Helping

It would be a mistake not to try to understand people and wait for someone else to help them. It would also be a mistake to only learn and advise when we meet those in need, forgetting about providing concrete help. It is not enough to just help others without trying to understand them and lovingly find out how a patient person can help those who are waiting for help, how they can serve others and bring them joy even while enduring their own suffering. We need to resist the urge to beg for money or sympathy from others and instead focus on proper education and upbringing.

The Healing Power of the Gospel

The teachings of the Gospel, which we all recognize, have always been the best remedy for all human ailments. It gives strength to endure, avoid many troubles, and carry them patiently and cheerfully. In each individual and specific case, this Gospel teaching has the full dynamics and energy to give a patient person courage and optimism in all situations and needs.

Following Jesus’ Example

If we want to imitate Jesus in our daily encounters with human suffering, we need to extend our hands beyond our personal interests, our sick, sufferings, worries, and problems, to the person who is waiting for our help and sympathy.

* Never forget that there is someone suffering next to us. Let us not pass by human sorrow. With our hands, we can comfort, heal, and restore the dignity of a person who is suffering.

Let us learn from Jesus, who said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
