As the setting Sun was bidding me goodbye
I was sitting by my window, kissing my cup of chai
and I wondered
what could be the most precious gift
that I could bestow upon the earth.
And in a moment of bliss I realized
It is NOTHING! Yes, NOTHING!
For too long we humans have been chasing EVERYTHING.
Amidst the splendor, our huge houses stand,
where dreams are woven glittering in golden strands.
And beneath the bright stars,
we cruise carefree in our huge cars.
With elaan we chose fancy clothes and shoes,
in elegance we live, banishing life’s blues.
And what is life without the comforts known,
air-conditioners hum, and mobile phones brightly shown.
But, amidst my luxuries, a harsh truth unfolds.
Millions of lives, both plants and creatures it holds,
extinction’s shadow looms, a grave plight,
my unbounded progress, leading to a pity sight.
Our insatiable hunger,
never to cease,
has driven species by the millions
to extinction’s crease.
So here I am,
at the end of my chai,
come to the paradoxical conclusion
that the most precious gift I can buy
for the planet I live in
is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING.
So come friends,
for once let us celebrate the importance of nothing.
We have far too many things,
let us now learn to be happy with NOTHING.
