I am a science teacher in a government school. One of our good students Shashi was teaching social science to secondary classes in our school.

She was very much interested in learning classical music. Somehow this idea of Shashi learning #music at this stage of her life was very strange for her family. It so happened Shashi was from a #conservative family. Her grandmother who has every big say in running her family was of the strong view if Shashi wants to learn some skill then the best is she should join #stichinhg classes. According to her grandmother after marriage homemaker can save a lot of money and time with her #sewing skills. In other words, she can #contribute a lot to her in-laws family. Somehow Shashi was not ready for this.

"Someone asked me why I always buy rubber shoes, saying I already have so many shoes, how will I even wear them all. I just smiled and said it has a story that I can't forget.

During my high school days, it was really difficult because we were many siblings, almost all in high school at the same time, and I was the youngest. We would go to school sometimes with allowance, but often without, and we would just walk to school, a 30-minute walk. My shoes back then were just one pair and cheap, but I took good care of them because my father bought them. One time, I ran to one of my subjects because I was a bit late, but sadly, my shoe broke, the spike came off. I was so embarrassed at that time because many people saw it and laughed at me, so I just went home carrying the broken shoe. I cried so much then, and it was there that I thought that when I finished my studies and started working, the first thing I would really buy is expensive shoes, and not for my high school days. That happened to me in college too, but I used it as inspiration. Aside from God, it was also one of my motivations to reach my goal. And by God's grace, I finished my studies and was able to work abroad. That's why when I like a pair of shoes, I really buy them because it's one of my ways of facing [the world], to have shoes that are a bit expensive and won't easily break. So when someone asks me why I keep buying shoes when I already have so many, I just smile because they don't know my story, why I love shoes so much. I just can't forget that time; even now, it still makes me want to cry.
