It was pouring so badly that it felt as if clouds were angry, the sky was dark, and it seemed like it was late in the evening when it was 11 in the morning. Ayaan was wondering how great it would have been if he had chosen to sit back home instead of braving the rains for his coaching classes, two of which got suspended anyway, and now he is stranded in this mess. The underground parking area had flooded, his scooter was stuck, and so was he. Maybe he should take a taxi back home? He thought, but there were no taxis visible anywhere, and he knew even if he managed to get one, the driver wouldn't easily agree to take him to his place. Because the railway passing near his house almost always got flooded in such rains, and it was nearly impossible for any vehicles to pass.

Ayaan had certain someone in the back of his mind whom he would have loved to ask for help, but he was trying to scrape away this thought every time it surfaced. "No Ayaan, you shouldn't!" he was telling himself, "bad idea, bad idea", he kept on chanting. It was almost comical the way he was arguing himself, standing under the plastic roof of the deserted bus stand, shaking his head to himself. He was so busy with his internal debate that he didn't even realise when a black sedan stopped in front of him. It was on the second honk that he came to his senses. The glass went down a little, and a handsome, bespectacled man leaned over to his side and shouted over the heavy pouring sound of rain, "Hop in... fast!"
Ayaan was numb for a few seconds, "What are you thinking? Water's getting inside.. come on fast". After this, Ayaan mechanically opened the door of the car and hopped in almost instantly. It was a huge shock for him. His heart was beating so fast he could hear it as if his heart wasn't in his chest but in his ears. If it wasn't for the loud noise of rain, he was sure that his heartbeats would have given away his secret today. "What happened, Ayaan? You look distracted", Jatin was asking.
Distracted? thought Ayaan.
Are you kidding me? I am dying of happiness right now, Shit what do I do? Why is he helping me? Shit, I am inside his car with him! What the actual fuck!!!
"Umm, nothing, Sir, it's just I am a bit worried", he managed to utter despite the panic inside him.
Why the fuck my voice sounded so stupid and small?
These internal monologues were getting tricky. Ayaan knew he needed to calm down to sound sane, but it was just not happening.
"First, how many times do I tell you? Outside the institution, please call me by my name. You make me feel as if I am some old Uncle. And now tell me, what are you worried about?" Jatin said. Ayaan was struggling to shut the evil little voice inside him, which wanted to call out Jatin's name in the most seductive voice he could manage to make, but he somehow contained his desires. "I live in Sulem Sarai locality, you know the railway under-bridge gets really flooded in this kind of rains, I don't know if your car will be able to cross it," Ayaan said, this time succeeding in sounding almost normal. "I never said I was going to drop you off at your home", Jatin replied with a rare side smile.
WHAT? WHAT? WHAAAAT?
This time Ayaan was caught off guard and he couldn't hide the exaggerated expression of utter shock on his face, his eyes were threatening to pop out anytime and his mouth was agape. Jatin chuckled at Ayaan's stupid expression then said: "My place is nearby, you can wait while the rain subsides, then take a taxi or something."
your place? He is taking me to his place? This is definitely a dream.
"Works for you?" Jatin asked him.
it runs damn it! I am going crazyy.
"Alright, yeah, thanks for helping me", Ayaan replied, barely being able to suppress his face from splitting into a stupid ear-to-ear grin. He couldn't have dreamed of sitting in Jatin's car, and now he was on the way to his home. Ayaan is a mature and rational teenager. Actually, too mature for his age sometimes, that's what Jessica, his best-friend, kept on telling him again and again. But the way he was reacting today was the complete opposite of his normal, rational self. His heart was fluttering uncontrollably, and every time Jatin moved his hands to change gears, he would get mini-heart attacks.

I won't be able to survive this... I should have declined his offer. This is too much for me, and he is too close.
Ayaan was so excited that he feared he would get nauseated. "And here we are.." Jatin said as he parked his car. Ayaan looked around in realisation. They took the elevator. Ayaan was shivering, He had got drenched a little earlier while running over to the bus stop from the institution. "You need to change or else you'll get sick", Jatin said with a concerned expression.
Change?? change into what? His clothes? Holy fuck of fucks! Why is it turning into one of Jessica's cliche BL stories?
Ayaan was in a state where he wanted to have a straight run back to his home shouting like crazy all the way and yet he won't take anything in exchange for this situation right now. He had never felt this kind of excitement ever. After all, Jatin was his first-ever crush.
Jatin was like a sudden downpour in Ayaan's parched life, it had struck him like lightning one fine day that he liked this man and liked him to the extent where he had to be a part of his life. He wasn't having any high hopes, even a teacher-student relationship was enough for him initially. But with every passing day and every interaction he couldn't help but want to be something more, from just a student to a favorite student to a student cum friend and now maybe he could become his good friend? Was he being greedy? Was he expecting too much? He could meet Jatin daily, talk to him anytime, but why wasn't it enough? What was he even expecting? He should keep the reality of the situation in his mind. Though thoughts like these kept him grounded and stopped him from doing anything stupid, today it was different. He just didn't want to face the reality today, he wanted to be stupid for once.
Jatin tapped his electronic key card and opened the door to his flat on the seventh floor. "Come on in", he tilted his head, inviting Ayaan inside. It was white all over, with white walls, white furniture, and white curtains. Ayaan was gawking, turning around in all directions. "Why is everything White?" he asked at last. "I like white, but it wasn't planned to be like that at first.. I just realised after the initial buying spree that most of the things that I had bought were white, so I thought, let's get everything else white as well." Jatin chuckled at himself, but it was his usual hollow chuckle, the one that Ayaan disliked the most.
What's so sad about liking white? Did I ask something wrong?
Ayaan was lost in string of his thoughts when Jatin handed him something, it was a dark blue cotton nightwear. "Go change, the bathroom is on the right".
"Oh, thanks" Ayaan mumbled, as he took small conscious steps towards the bathroom. He saw his reflection in the huge LED-lit mirror, his hair was damp and sticking flat on his temple. "Oh no!!", Ayaan rolled his eyes.
just great, I am looking so stupid!
The hair which he had set with so much care this morning was now looking nothing more than a wet mop. He sighed, took a quick shower and changed, all the while trying his best not to think of Jatin taking a shower every single day in this same space. Jatin's clothes were oversized for Ayaan, but he felt super comfy. He stepped out of the bathroom and was welcomed by a rich coffee aroma. Although Ayaan is more of a tea person but now suddenly he was craving for coffee.
he is making coffee ...Ahhhh!
He took a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself down before going in front of Jatin. As he entered the living area, he saw a coffee maker lying on the countertop and Jatin was busy in the kitchen. He was setting the sandwich-maker on the slab.
"Please don't bother..why are you cooking? I am fine.." Ayaan said almost embarrassed.
why is he being so considerate.. as if we are very close..
Jatin turned around and saw Ayaan: oversized clothes, tasselled wet hair, a red nose, and an embarrassed expression. "It's worth it," he said, his eyes still on Ayaan.
"Worth it? What's worth it?" Ayaan mumbled.
"Bothering..." Jatin replied in a husky voice.
Ayaan swallowed his saliva, he felt as if it was impossible to breathe.
Jatin chuckled after a few seconds, "I mean, I would have cooked for myself anyway so it's not a bother really.. Why don't you make yourself comfortable..umm you can watch television if you want.. I am just making sandwiches and Coffee..would take just a few minutes"
Ayaan sat on the sofa in a trance and switched on the television..
what was that? Did he just meant I am worth it? or am I overthinking?
