Google search is the biggest traffic source for most websites and individual creators.

Yes, it's always good to have an audience and a following, but to grow the audience, one of the best ways is to rank on Google.

Google is used by billions of people almost daily. Despite the popularity of tools like ChatGPT, Google's lead remains unchallenged.

For ranking on Google, you need two things: a Creation that people actually search for and a great title/description.

But before that, my honest apologies for no Creation last week. It was a technical snag, it's just I forgot to schedule it, and later decided not to publish on a Tuesday.

Hello, I am Aditya Agarwal, Co-Founder at Milyin, and this is Becoming Creator, a new series for every Creator who wants to grow at Milyin.

How to Get Traffic from Google?

Well, search engines like Google simply try to understand the user's search query and then show most relevant links based on it.

This means, you need 2 things:

    1. A Creation That People Search For

Since Google search relies on humans searching for a term to find results, your Creation has to be about something humans search. For example, "How to make noodles" could be a relevant search term, and can have 1000s of links from Google.

But let's say you publish a Creation about "How I spilled my noodles and messed up the Kitchen", regardless of how great your Creation is, it's unlikely for someone to search for that title on Google or any other search engine.

    2. Good Title/Description

Now that you have a Creation about something that genuinely excites the audience and is relevant to a search term, you need to optimize Title and Meta Description?

Why? Any searchable term on Google will have 100s, if not 1000s or 1000000s, of links to sort through. You want to appear in the top 10 (ideally top 3). While the actual content is critical, the Meta Description and Title do a lot of work to rank you in the top spots.

We have already covered how to improve the Title previously on Becoming Creator, today we focus on Descriptions.

    What is Meta Description?

Okay, let's start with the basics. What happens when you search on Google or any other search engines? Well, you see 10 blue links and some summaries on the top.

    Something like this:

    Screenshot 2025 04 19 183435

Here you can see 4 blue links accompanied by:

    • Site name (like "Milyin")
    • Site URL (like "https://milyin.com/")
    • Title (Blue Color)
    • Description (1.5 lines of text below the Blue Title)

This description you are seeing is called Meta Description, simple?

So What's a Good Meta Description?

Scroll up and see the screenshot again. Did you notice that all Meta Descriptions are roughly the same size?

That's on purpose. Ideally, your description should be written in a paragraph, with about 140 characters (+/- 20 characters).

It should be a complete and factual description of what is covered. Avoid emojis and fancy words, and keep it understandable/straightforward.

Where to Write Meta Description at Milyin?

Well, that's an important question. After all, as Creators, you'd want to implement it at Milyin.

I am assuming you are already familiar with the Creation Interface at New Creation.

In the Creation Interface at the bottom you will find the Description section. As shown in the screenshot below. You can type your Creation Description in it.

    Meta Description is Overrated

Yes, despite sharing the importance of Meta Descriptions, I personally think they are overrated. I would be honest, Milyin used to value Meta Description a lot in its internal rankings.

But we don't care much about it now. Google and other search engines still care about it, so you should use it.

However, I'd argue that creators creating great content don't even need Google Search or any other source. Milyin's audience should be enough to make you successful.

Rest it's your choice. It won't hurt you to use Meta Descriptions properly, but it's not going to be the silver bullet for success for most Creators. Although if you are targeting Google Search driven traffic, then definitely it can "skyrocket" your views.

    Conclusion

Thanks for engaging with this Creation. I appreciate your time and hope this series is worthy of your time. Do write to me in the comment section if you think we should keep continuing this series or not. (Just trying to get your thoughts).

As always, I am in Comment Section for anything you might need. Thanks!
