“School is a temple”—a line we've scribbled countless times at the top of our notebooks, just before beginning our work. Not just out of habit, but belief. A temple is sacred, pure, and a place of guidance—and so is a school. Or at least, so it should be.

I truly believe in that sentiment. To me, school is the best place to explore oneself. It's where we learn, grow, and discover who we are—until the day we’re ready to make our own decisions in life.

But somewhere between the pre-Covid era and today, something has changed. Education, which belongs to the tertiary sector, is supposed to be a service—meant to nurture young minds through academics, sports, and extracurriculars. And yet, it has taken on two unfortunate forms: a business and a political arena.

(Note: This is not an attack on any specific school. Many institutions still uphold the true values of education and deserve appreciation.)

    1) It’s a Business

Think back to our parents' days—education was practically free. Many studied up to Class 8 without paying a rupee. Even higher education cost just ₹5–₹10. Now? A decent private school charges ₹4,000–₹5,000 a month, minimum.

Yes, times have changed. Private schools offer better facilities, exposure, and societal prestige. But wasn’t education meant to be a service, not a status symbol?

What about government schools—where teachers, despite high salaries, often don’t teach even 10–15 students properly?

It feels like education today is more about paying to belong than actually learning. Families stretch their budgets thin just to fit into this new “standard,” and many end up with very little in return.

“Today, a classroom has become less about curiosity, and more about currency.”

    2) It’s Politics

This is more sensitive, but just as real.

Even the most talented students often go unrecognized—not due to lack of ability, but because of favoritism, power games, and shallow connections.

“Sometimes the potential is unheard, and the worthy fail.” This happens in academics, sports, and beyond.

Imagine a student who’s been consistently winning—breaking records no one else could. And yet, he receives no recognition. Why? Because others, who stay close to the authorities and play the game of flattery, are promoted instead.

    This isn’t just unfair—it’s disheartening.

“When merit loses to manipulation, we all lose a future star.”

    A Final Message

To every student, teacher, and authority reading this:

If you ever witness injustice—where someone truly deserving is being overlooked—speak up. Support the ones who deserve the spotlight, even if they aren’t your favorites or lack the “right” connections.

Your voice, your support, might just be the push that helps a real star rise.

Let’s build a system where talent is valued over ties, and merit over manipulation.

“When justice sleeps, talent weeps. Let your voice be the wake-up call.”
