We often come across situations where we might notice a sudden drop in our overall energy. This can happen expectedly or unexpectedly. Sometimes when things don’t go as planned and the outcome that we are expecting is almost the opposite of what we had thought can result in feelings of sudden demotivation. I had also faced a similar situation recently and I am here to share some of the ways that were utilized to cope up with the same:

1. Music-I feel music is one of the biggest forms of relaxation for us. Since, it comes in various forms and types, we can relate to it as per our comfort. Hence, I also utilized it as one of the coping methods to gain back my motivation. It certainly helped to bring about a mood shift.
2. Quick walk/Exercise-I feel change of the immediate environment helps to declutter the random thoughts that we might start getting as a result of losing motivation. Therefore, altering our environment can to some extent provide us with a great opportunity to be with ourselves and to understand our thoughts.
3. Modifying the day’s schedule-Sometimes due to our busy schedule, we cannot completely change a whole day’s plan as it might impact our other ongoing tasks or activities. Hence, I feel whatever scope seems feasible can be utilized to help us better cope with the level of demotivation so that it helps to uplift our spirit. If we are able to manage to get 30 minutes/45 minutes for ourselves then we can try to figure out on how do we want to make ourselves feel better given the duration that we have for ourselves. This will be very subjective in its nature based on our personalized understanding.
4. Revisiting good memories-There could be a lot of ways to do this. For some of us, we might want to connect with people who make us feel much better and provide us with a feeling of safe space. Catching up and spending more time with people who bring out the best in us can certainly help to some degree in bringing back our motivation. Alternatively, we can also look at some of our old childhood photo albums to relive and cherish those old memories that we might have created with our favorite set of people.

5. Comedy Movies/shows-This can be another way to go about enhancing our degree of motivation. Reconnecting with any old comedy show/ movie or exploring any new genre in that nature could help us to creatively address at enhancing our overall level of motivation.
6. Inner-talk-This is more of a self-reflection practice. Demotivation can make it very difficult for us to acknowledge and understand as to what exactly we are feeling wrong. We might feel confused for a brief period of time. Hence, it becomes important to spend some time with our own selves to create a simple understanding of our situation. Inner-talk can help us to break the chain of demotivation through a question-and-answer method (just the way we might be talking to someone to make them enhance their understanding of a respective situation). We can ask ourselves pointed questions or just write it in a free-flow format. This can be done in both ways-either verbal (in our personal space) or written (by journaling).
The coping ways that we might want to use given a situation will always vary depending upon our personalized life experiences. I feel it becomes very important to identify and break the pattern of demotivation whenever we experience the same. Since, all days are not the same, spending time with our thoughts can certainly help us to explore different kinds of creative methods to cope up and slowly bring back our motivation. Here, the important thing is to be mindful of not pushing ourselves too much as sometimes that might create additional stress. Hence, just taking any tiny step in the direction to bring back our motivation can do wonders!
