For the last 2 months, we have been collecting a list of common questions from our new Creators, long-term Creators, and new Members. We compiled a list of some of the most common questions and will be sharing answers to them.
This is not exactly customer support, and we are just trying to make sure that everyone knows the answers to common questions.

UGAOO Three Layer Bamboo Plant
Let's start, with the most obvious one.
1. What does "Milyin" mean?
Well, the most obvious answer would be to think that it sounds similar to "million"; therefore, it must be slang for "million." That's NOT true.
Let's look at some possible meanings of Milyin:
- Most obvious is "million" = Milyin
- "Milyin" can phonetically be split in 3 parts - "Mi" as in "Mission", "Ly" as in "Leadership", and "In" as Individuality. All 3 in that order are widely regarded as the mantra of living as a social animal.
- "Milyin" also is similar to 'myelin', a critical component of our nervous system responsible for faster signal transmission between brain and body.
So, what's the right answer? Well, "Milyin" represents Creativity, and up to you to decide what you like. Just like Milyin is a platform for Creations and every person can have a different interpretation of "Creations", some it consider it as stories, others might think of it as poems, quotes, etc. We want Milyin itself to also have many meanings and be interpreted differently by anyone.
While the name Milyin was truly derived from myelin sheaths when our founding members Aditya Agarwal, Saksham Goel, and Akarshit Mahajan were studying biology, there were many names being floated around, and this stuck because it had lots of interpretations and overall represented creativity. Aditya, to this day, prefers the mission, leadership, and individual definition. But again, that's the beauty of it; everyone can interpret Milyin differently.
Just like a man can be a husband to someone, father to another one, son to yet another person, and bestie to yet another person. Milyin can play different roles and have different meanings in the lives of every individual.
2. What is the idea Behind The Logo?
We like our logo, and most of our members do too. Our logo, on first look, looks like an "M" only.
But our past iterations had it look like two people were shaking hands. Such that the vertical lines looked like stick figures, and the middle two lines were two arms crossing one another.
That has been changed for a long time now. But what does current logo have in terms of hidden details?
Well, the current logo's right leg, looks like a pen/pencil/stylus/paintbrush. The goal is again to represent various forms and make them easily interpretable by different individuals.
3. Is Milyin Legit?
If you are reading this, it is very likely that you are already familiar with Milyin, but for new members, yes, we are legit. Yes, there is a chance for Creators to earn when they serve their audience well. We have strong and robust policies protecting you that hold you and us both to very high standards.
4. How many Founders does Milyin have?
Well, it's a tough question to answer. There are no defined roles as founders, but founding members include Aditya Agarwal, Saksham Goel, Akarshit Mahajan, Saksham Bakshi, Jiten Kumar, and more. All have made significant contributions as founding members over the years.
5. Why do we call it "Creations"?
For the first few days of our existence, we called it "stories." The generally accepted term for written content is article or blog. But we at Milyin had (and still have) ambitions for Podcasts, videos, images, and various other form factors. Plus, even in written form, called "article" or "blog," will make it repulsive for story writers, quote writers, and poets. Stories were discarded within a week, to name it "Creations"
6. When was Milyin Founded?
We started in 2018. On 3rd May 2018, we started a free WordPress website milyin.wordpress.com and it still exists to this day. But, we quickly invested Rs. 1700 (around $20 in that time's money) to move to milyin.com
Since that day, we have kept milyin.wordpress.com just like that for monumental importance, and Milyin has been running since then. We likely to believe our establishment as 3rd May, 2018.
7. How does Milyin earn money?
We earn from ads and affiliate links. Ideally, we want to take a percentage cut of your earnings through ads and affiliate links. Just like YouTube and other platforms share revenue with Creators, we, too, work on revenue sharing. YouTube takes around 30% of Creator earnings for context. We have no defined hard and fast percentage structure deciding your earnings, but for now, we are generally in the figure of less than 5%.
This is because, due to our small scale currently, we want to support Creators better, and for that, we keep our earnings low.
8. Is Milyin Profitable?
Short answer - No. We have been in loss for majority of the time.
The long answer is that we don't want to be profitable for now. In our entire existence, we have only had 1 month where we were profitable. Our goal is to support Creators to the best of our ability in terms of growth. Once we scale a bit, we will try to recoup the losses, but it is important to keep Creators happy for now!
9. Why is $1 = Rs. 75 at Milyin?
This has been a popular question among Creators. Currently, the dollar is actually valued at around Rs. 86. We send you earnings via a personal UPI ID, not a business ID. This is because we are not working as a business currently. As a result, the tax liability lies in the money sender's hands. Thus, your earnings are tax-free, as they are essentially personal expenses. We think we deserve a 10% cut for making your earnings tax-free. By doing that 10% deduction, we reach almost Rs. 77, and then we just round off to Rs. 75.
10. Why Don't we have paid subscriptions??
Paid Subscriptions are something we have wanted to do for a long time. The thing is, we don't think any of the Creators currently has the traction to sustain long-term paying members. Platforms like Quora have tried paid subscriptions with very little success. Whereas YouTube has had massive success. It is all relative, and we will eventually do it someday; the timing just isn't right.
11. What are/were Downloadables?
Okay, new Creators might not know this. But Milyin once upon a time had a system to create and sell downloadables. This could be images, books, and more. It was really unsuccessful. We want to do it, but it's better to first be the best in written Creations and then chase other goals. Trying too many things will weigh us down.
12. Why do we still use WordPress?
People with technical background would know that Milyin is built on WordPress. In general, WordPress is old, limited, and not very future ready. When we started, we were inexperienced and number 1 concern was data security, rather than building everything ourselves and risking things, it's better we take an existing framework with all security and safety features built in.
Today, Milyin's majority of functionality is programmed in-house, with plugins only used for performance and security. But, still, we are running WordPress, which is old, and PHP, too, doesn't have scope. Migrating to another platform is always a tedious and laborious task. We intend to defer it until we have enough financial resources to do it.
13. Why we don't have a proper mobile app?
We have a mobile app, but that too is a wrapper for the actual website. Our aim was to keep development fast and Milyin should remain very nimble. Apps by design are limited by there environment. An Android app cannot run on iOS or Windows. iOS apps won't run on Android or Windows. Whereas a website runs everywhere, massively improving reach. Having to build apps for different platforms would have massively increased development time and slowed us down. Not to mention the financial costs associated. That's why we intend to remain website-first until we can move away from WordPress.
14. What Does Future of Milyin Look like?
Well, this answer keeps changing with time. Our long-term goal is to be the one stop destination for all forms of Creations. But in near future, our focus is to grow our reach and audience in written-Creations form factor. We have spent lot of time building and improving the platform, now we need growth. Substantial growth will be needed to start diversifying in other forms of Creations, planning for native apps, etc.
15. Does Milyin have any investors?
No, we don't have investors. Startups, after getting investments, often end up chasing short-term growth to keep investors happy. We are building for the long term. Patience and hard work are critical for long-term sustainable brands, and we are doing exactly that.
16. How can I help Milyin grow?
Well, thanks for asking. There are 3 things you can do to help us:
- Create Great Creations that actually make us look good, bring in viewership, and revenue.
- Invite Creators: Invite your fellow friends, family, and acquaintances at Milyin to create.
- Share your Creations and other Creations on social media, WhatsApp and other channels.
17. I want to talk to you; how to contact Milyin?
There are many ways to connect with us. The most convenient is Milyin Chat, which is our official chat channel. Otherwise, you can connect with us via our @milyin.com">email, or our official Customer Support page.
