I have always been a fan of Lucky Dube. His music has been a constant in my life, a voice that speaks even when I don’t have the words. But tonight, in the stillness of the night, with the cool breeze brushing against my skin, “The Show Goes On", hits differently. It makes me wonder.🤷

Yesterday, I wrote about being a coward; about the fear that keeps so many of us silent. Tonight, as I listen to this song, I question if that fear comes from knowing that, in the grand scheme of things, life doesn’t pause for anyone. People leave, people die, tragedies unfold, and yet the world keeps spinning. The pain lingers only in the hearts of those directly affected, but for everyone else, it’s just another passing event.

Maybe that’s why we look away when injustice stares us in the face. Maybe that’s why we convince ourselves that suffering is just another part of life. We see people lose their lives, and the news moves on. We watch leaders prioritize trivialities while real issues go ignored, and we sigh, whispering, we will survive. But what does survival mean when it’s nothing more than enduring the same cycle of pain?

It’s true, the show goes on without us. But does that mean we should stand in the shadows, letting life play out as it always has? If we do nothing, those after us will inherit the same silence, the same resignation. Maybe we can’t stop the show. But we can decide how we play our part. We can choose to leave something behind, not just memories of endurance, but proof that we tried to change the script.
