Welcome back, dear readers, to explore the beauty of Thimphu, further.
A most important thing we want to experiment with on a trip to a new place will surely be the authentic food of that place.
Bhutan's authentic cuisine blends well with the mountain terrain. They have some special spicy preparations to withstand the cold as well as the hard mountain life.
What we had for lunch that day was a special Fried Rice and some Momos along with their traditional Butter tea. Will give a detailed description on Bhutanese food later.
Let's now go back to our visual treats.
After lunch, we went to see the Centenary Farmer's Market in Thimphu. It surely was a happening place. Farmers from even far away places from Thimphu would assemble there with their farm products. A variety of cereals, vegetables that are not so common in our areas, some quick bites, and a variety of fruits.
This is a weekend market. Farmers would arrive here by Wednesday and would stay till Sunday night. This is the largest farmer's market in Bhutan.
Since we visited Thimphu on a Sunday, we could see the Market but missed out The Craft School and Thimphu Post Office.
No problem, we shall wait for the next visit for that.
Wangchu river is very near the market. There is a suspension bridge over the river, and crossing that bridge, we enter a set of shops selling Bhutanese artifacts, clothes, etc.
We should acknowledge the traffic ethics of the people in Bhutan. No hurry to overtake any vehicle at all. And on zebra crossings or any other place, pedestrians were waiting, the vehicle would move on, only once we walk across comfortably.
Even on crazy U-turns around the mountains, no honking at all. We really need to copy such things.
We can't even find any traffic lights in Bhutan. Only one traffic signal is seen in Thimphu itself, that too is hand signaled. They drive so much clung to the rules, that you don't need any other person to control that.
Such a peace-loving community!
That was all for the day. After spending some more time in a park, where the kids would enjoy some archery and games, we ended the Thimphu exploration.
We returned to the hotel and the next morning started the journey to Punakha. Another mesmerizing place indeed.
See you again with much more interesting memories of Bhutan. Thanks for your journey with us.
