With iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, Apple's design is getting a makeover. Apple's operating system will look and feel a lot different with these updates. Changes are coming to icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons.

It’s compared with the changes iOS 7 brought as against iOS 6 and just imagining how awesome it might be.
I would love circular icons! But they could make them changeable, so everyone could choose. I personally would love it. Maybe it’s because of the PearPhones from iCarly and so on. I always wanted it as a child (still do). They had circular icons.

If we're being honest, a visual refresh of iOS has been needed for several years. Unfortunately, in 2025, Apple is more known for software delays than actual updates. I hope it is VisionOS inspired because I like the 3D layered look. It gives the icons more depth and I think they look cool. iOS has become iconic. I don’t want it to change too much. I like the classic look of stuff even though most everything on iOS has already changed.
Apple might change things, and maybe even make things more customizable, but they still only make little effort. They still control how much you can even customize. I need them to fix the messy gallery UI and the auto-adjusting of taking pictures on iPhone 16. All I want is for the software not to be buggy. iOS 18.3.2 STILL has buggy icons when switching from light to dark mode and vice versa.
The design itself is a very good thing, but what about real software optimization and bug fixing? I would like to note the very laggy scrolling both in third-party apps and in the Apple-developed apps and iOS systems as well.
Apple Music has steadily accrued more annoyances. A feature I've wanted for years is an explicit/clean filter option for songs in library or playlists. I also feel like I forgot about the songs I've added, so a nice feature would be a better way to see all of them or remind you of your old additions.
I hope this future iOS version update is not going to center on the Apple Intelligence stuff. Apple must be real with other iPhone users this time. And, every time iOS updates, it requires higher storage capacity, although it has new features. Apple knows the pressure is on and competition is tougher than ever.
Final thoughts:
I love the translucent nature of VisionOS. I really hope they nail this. The last 10 years have felt so discouraging every time an update comes out. IDK how there are fan animations with better-looking OS than you all. I hope they give us an option to switch between the rounded icons and the square icons. They should also make all notifications appear on the dynamic island because dynamic island is just useless with few apps to utilize it.
Hopefully Apple will continue to understand that while there are some design cues that can be consistent across platforms, it’s the interaction method that determines the nature and shape of elements.
