Hello, thank you for taking the time to see my article. It’s lovely to have you here! Let’s get started.
Our interaction with music comes in different ways and forms. The kind of music that we might like is very subjective and differs for everyone. Music reaches out to us and interacts in various ways-through radio, someone singing in our natural environment, we might also like to sing ourselves or play some kind of musical instruments as well to establish some degree of connection with music. I believe either directly/indirectly music becomes an indispensable part of us and plays a major role in the life journey of an individual based on how we connect with it.
Music has always been a great medium of inspiration for me. The kind of music that I want to listen to depends on how I am feeling at that point in time along with my overall motivation and energy level. Music greatly helps on the days when I do not feel like showing up and following my schedule and it also helps when it feels like some breathing space is needed from a stress-causing situation. Music is so diverse in nature that it can cater to both the emotions of happiness and sadness along with various other kinds of emotions whenever we face them. For me, it is also a great way to express myself and due to this I feel music is a great communicator as well. We present our actual state to it and it uplifts us in the best possible way as it can.
My journey of connecting with Music mainly began during my high school. I was shifted to a class section where I had no friends but tried really hard to connect with the classmates. I did connect with some of the classmates but still overall I did not feel it to be a very inclusive space. I remember during that time I had also unfortunately got typhoid and couldn’t attend school for some time and when I returned, I was still coping up with the body’s weakness and catching up with the missed classes and the syllabus but still that feeling of lack of inclusion was there. I remember how I used to be so demotivated when I returned back home. Sometimes, I didn’t even want to talk or engage much at home as it felt that my energy was being exhausted. However, one day I decided to create my own coping mechanism to deal better with the situation. I had taken some music lessons during my junior school (vocal and instrumental music) so I started to spend some time doing the same on my own when I returned from school. Whenever I was not motivated enough to practice music, I just listened to some kind of music based on the way I was feeling on that day and that gradually increased my motivation.

There were days when I really had to work hard to keep my motivation intact. However, I ensured to include Music as a daily part of my schedule and at least devote 30 minutes to it per day. I would not say that Music changed my emotions quickly. However, it did make me feel a lot better and helped to cope better as I started to connect and relate to Music more than ever before. I started to identify Music as my best friend and a great medium of expression which provided a completely safe space of free communication. This gradually began to improve the situation as I was able to increase my focus on the things that mattered with the positive contribution of Music. I also found Music by my side whenever I found that my confidence and motivation needed a boost.
The beauty of Music is that it can connect with anyone based on the meaning that we attach to it. There is no criteria here for the connection being established. It can be a great way to express any subtle emotion that we might be trying to manage. An effective coping mechanism such as this could also help us to deal with any stress that we might be facing. This could also help us to feel a bit light and enhance our creativity as a relaxed mind can produce a great set of ideas that we might want to work towards. We could also start to be more present in the life happening at the moment (as music can connect with our current situation at hand). The greatest magic of Music is that it can help us to feel more connected with our own self and that is why I feel we should always hold on to Music in the journey of life.
