The Devotional Saint-Poet Tulsidas (1532-1623) was a renowned Indian poet and saint who is most famous for his Ramcharitmanas, a Hindi version of Ramayana in Awadhi. His words which spoke of devotion (bhakti) to Lord Rama made this epic accessible to common man. Tulsidas was a UP boy and was heavily influenced by Bhakti movement which had given importance to individual devotion over rituals. Millions are still inspired by his poems which are spiritually deep and simple. He also wrote Hanuman Chalisa, a famous devotional song on Hanuman. Hindu literature and devotion has been shaped for centuries by Tulsidas’ impact.
