The Voices of Early Civilization: Ancient Poets
Poetry from antiquity had a strong influence on literature and society at large. Mesopotamia has documented the very first poet ever heard in history, Enheduanna (2285–2250 BCE), known for her poems to Inanna.
In the eighth century BCE, Homer transformed storytelling with The Iliad and The Odyssey. Vyasa wrote Mahabharata of India, while Valmiki wrote The Ramayana. Li Sao made Chinese poetry even more enhanced under the reign of Qu Yuan (340–278 BCE).
Persian poets like Rudaki and Ferdowsi recorded history in verse. Their words never go out of style.
