The story of Sai Baba’s arrival in Shirdi is full of spirituality and mystery. Sai Baba, whose exact origins remain unclear, is widely believed to have been born around 1838.

Some traditions suggest he was born to a humble Brahmin family but was later raised by a Muslim fakir. Others believe he was of divine origin, sent to spread the message of unity, love, and faith.

Sai Baba is said to have first come to Shirdi, a small village in Maharashtra, as a young man. His appearance was that of a fakir , dressed in simple clothes.

The legend goes that he was first brought to Shirdi by a marriage party. A devotee named Chand Patil, a village headman, encountered Sai Baba during his search for a lost horse.

Sai Baba helped Patil find the horse through his divine powers leaving him deeply impressed.

When Chand Patil's niece's wedding procession traveled to Shirdi, Sai Baba accompanied them.

Upon reaching Shirdi, the procession halted near the Khandoba temple.

Mhalsapati, priest of the temple welcomed Sai Baba with the words, “Aao Sai!”. From then on, he became known as Sai Baba.

After arriving in Shirdi, Sai Baba chose to stay under a neem tree, where he would often meditate for long hours.

His simple lifestyle, deep spirituality, and miracles began to draw the attention of the villagers.

Later, he moved to an old mosque, which he named Dwarkamai. Here, he started to guide and bless people, irrespective of their religion, caste, or background.

Sai Baba’s taught faith (Shraddha) and patience (Saburi).

He promoted harmony between Hindus and muslims.

His life and miracles inspired countless devotees, and even today, Shirdi has become a place of pilgrimage for people from all over the world.
