During every summer we yearn for a trip to a cold place. Two years back, after so many additions and subtractions, this beautiful land came to our mind.... BHUTAN-The land of thunder dragons.... A chilling place other than Kashmir and the North East, to enjoy the beauty of The Himalayas...
Bhutan is very much near to Sikkim, the Indian state. But direct flights to their one and only airport Paro are very rare. Those who are travelling through train can get down at Siliguri railway station and from there enter Bhutan by road. We preferred the airways and landed at the Bagdogra airport. From there Jaipalgudi, the bordering place can be reached by car..
Bagdogra is a small airport managed by the Indian Army in West Bengal. Our cab driver took us to a hotel on the way to have our breakfast.

Ours was a hectic journey from Kochi almost near midnight. We had a 2-3 hours waiting at Bangalore airport too. But the airport and its new terminal is quite a visual to our eyes. The beautiful indoor plants and its intriguing arrangements... An array of glass decorations.. Such a mesmerizing sight!

On the way to the border we have tea plantations all along the way. Not far, but very near to our road... That greenery is a visual treat especially when you are bored with the dust and difficulties of the road travel. And these tea gardens are quite different from what we normally see in the southern states, especially Kerala.
Bhutan's counterpart to our Jaipalgudi(as a border place)is Pheunsholing...There is a beautiful gate seperating these two places. We wanted to shoot the entry to Bhutan, but couldn't accomplish it due to some heavy traffic on the road.
This word 'Pheunsholing' was difficult for us to pronounce and include in our chats initially. But as days went on it became like a household place. It has climate almost similar to India, being the border place. We stayed in a very good hotel there.
For staying and exploring further in Bhutan you need to have certain permits ans passes. Also you should pay a specific amount as Sustainable Development Fee. More on that in the next part. Hope you enjoy the journey so far...
