Reflecting on the Wildfire in Los Angeles: My Personal Thoughts on Disasters

As I was having lunch with a friend, he asked, "Have you heard about the wildfire in Los Angeles?" Since I hadn't seen the news, he began explaining what he had watched.

The Los Angeles wildfire, especially the Palisades and Eaton fires, has been heartbreaking. Over 10,000 structures were destroyed, and at least 11 lives were lost. Experts say the fire spread quickly due to dry conditions, high temperatures, and the strong Santa Ana winds. Climate change has also been identified as a cause, as it has made these conditions worse and wildfires more frequent.

My friend shared his thoughts, saying the fire happened because Allah was angry about the actions of some people and that it was a punishment.

This surprised me, and I asked, "Why do we always think disasters are caused by God's anger? Why do we blame divine forces for these events?"

He explained that certain leaders' decisions and people's behavior had caused problems in the world, which he believed led to Allah's anger.

I listened to him respectfully then I shared my belief:

"I think God or Allah is kind and loving. I don't believe He would intentionally destroy His creation. Disasters like this wildfire happen due to things we can't always control."

My Friend's Thoughts on the Wildfire's Cause:

Here are some of the reasons my friend believes caused the wildfire:

    1. He believes people's wrong actions upset Allah, leading to this event.

    2. He thinks decisions by certain leaders brought troubles that caused this disaster.

    3. He feels people have lost touch with their spiritual beliefs, and this is a reminder from Allah.

    4. He links disasters like this to people forgetting what is right and wrong.

    5. My friend thinks this is a sign for people to change their ways.

    My Own Thoughts:

On the other hand, here's what I believe about disasters like this:

    1. Fires happen because of things like dry weather, strong winds, and climate change.

    2. I don't believe God or Allah causes destruction as a way to punish people.

    3. Problems like cutting down too many trees or polluting the environment make these disasters worse.

    4. Some events, like wildfires, happen naturally and can't always be stopped.

    5. Instead of blaming God, we should focus on what we can do to avoid these problems in the future.

The Importance of Respecting Different Beliefs :

This conversation helped me understand how differently people see the same event, based on their background, culture, or life experiences. My friend and I didn't argue about our different ideas. Instead, we had a calm discussion. It reminded me that we don't have to fight or force others to think the same way we do.

Everyone's beliefs are based on how they grew up and what they've been through. While we may not always agree, we can choose to listen and respect each other.

    A Simple Realization:

My friend and I see the Los Angeles wildfire differently. While they view it as a tragic event driven by fate, I see it as a sign that we need to take more responsibility for our environment and make better decisions. In the end, we both agree that protecting our planet is something we must all take seriously.

Instead of blaming God for such tragedies, we should focus on what we can do to stop them from happening again.

The Los Angeles wildfire shows us how important it is to take care of our environment and act responsibly to protect future generations.
