In a bombed-out church, there stood a grandfather clock that had lost its rhythm ever since a nearby shell tore the silence. Years later, a soldier dressed in civils came home and stretched out to touch the disfigured object and probably for the first time since the shelling, it sang. War can’t take away time in totality; some moments were always kept.
