If you have faced issues with Bing Indexing like “The inspected URL is known to Bing but has some issues which are preventing indexation.” then you are not alone. Bing’s “Discovered but now crawled error” has troubled many SEOs for years. We’ve got a complete list of possible solutions to fix these issues.
Often times sites take a long time to get indexed on Bing. Sometimes, the site is indexed on Google but not on Bing. Personally, my site got deindexed from Bing. In my struggle to find the solution for getting my site indexed on Bing, I found everything that could cause Bing indexing issues.
What Does “Inspected URL is known to Bing but has some issues” mean?
The sentence “Inspected URL is known to Bing but has some issues” means that Bing has already found your webpage and crawled the webpage. Essentially it has been evaluated by Bing’s tools and considered not good enough to be indexed.
Your first step should be to check if the issue is URL-specific or site-wide.
If only a small percentage of your pages are deindexed, then it is possible that your issue is with the quality and content of that page. Whereas in case you face major sitewide issues, it is a technical or off page SEO issue.
Now, let’s deep dive into 9 things you can do to solve the issue of your site being indexed on Google but not on Bing.
1) Check Configuration
As obvious as it may seem, you should always check your configuration. Any basic wrong steps in your site can have a disastrous impact on your overall rankings and can result in “Discovered but not Crawled” warnings.
An easy way to check your site level misconfiguration is to check whether your site is indexed on Google. If your site ranks on Google, you will likely have a decent SEO configuration. Even after that, you should check robots.txt and meta tags to ensure no code is specifically blocking Bing.
If that’s all clean, you should log into Bing Webmasters and see if you are manually blocking any links or if you have any rules made to prevent indexing.
2) Checking Errors in Bing Webmasters
Once you have checked the configuration, you should get acquainted with your error log to see if there are any reported issues. Go to Webmasters and then Site Explorer. There you can select various issues and find the pages that have been impacted due to the same issues.
You can look into these errors and try to figure out any technical mistake that might be causing the “Discovered but not Crawled” error in your Bing Webmasters tools.
As an experienced SEO, I would love to help you with your issues. Reach out to me in your comments; I would be glad to help you solve your queries.
3) Contact Support
This is not as easy as it sounds. Bing does NOT have good customer support. Their lousy customer support is available only by Email.
The email ID for Bing Customer Support is [email protected]
Write an email to them. You are likely to get an auto-generated response within a few hours. But that response is of no help, and no real human would help you get your site back on Bing.
Whenever you receive communication from Bing, reply to that auto-generated response and do aggressive follow-ups. This is the only way to figure what was the reason for your site not being indexed on Bing.
4) Check for Anti Microsoft Content
Well, this is not a confirmed issue. But, multiple people, including me, have observed Microsoft to be blocking sites with content that is against Microsoft.
My site, for example, had content about the best Microsoft Word Alternatives. It is possible that Bing (owned by Microsoft) didn’t like it and blocked my website.
Now, again, this is not a verified parameter, but if nothing else works, do give it a shot. Also, to confirm my hypothesis reply in comments if your site too, had Microsoft content
5) Decrease HTML Size to fix Discovered But Not Crawled
In order to solve issues relating to indexing, you must look at your webpages’ total size. If your web pages are larger than 125KB in terms of HTML size.
Bots often struggle to index webpages with longer HTML. So, it is recommended to improve HTML size by reducing inline CSS/JS, Above The Fold CSS, and more.
Also, try to improve your images, reduce image sizes, and optimize your website for performance to ensure better rankings on all search engines.
6) Fake Backlinks
In case you have purchased fake backlinks or been involved with PBNs with low authority, then you could easily get penalized. The only way to solve this issue is to change your URL structure.
You must edit your URLs so that all your existing fake backlinks direct to pages with 404. This way, the impact of those fake backlinks can be minimized, and you may regain your rankings.
7) IndexNow WordPress Plugin
If you are using WordPress, there can be plenty of things that can go wrong with your site due to issues with plugins, code, or anything else, then you should start the Microsoft Bing’s Index Now plugin.
This submits the new/updated URLs to Bing automatically and helps improve indexing on smaller sites with less traffic and monthly visitors. If you are already ranking on Bing, it can help further improve your ranks and ease out your work as well.
Now you are ready to get your site back to Bing. A couple of things to remember are:
- Bing is slow. It can take well over 3 weeks to start showing positive results, so be patient
- Continuously monitor your site activity to ensure everything is in proper condition
- Ensure you are producing quality content that is factually accurate, original, and fit for all age groups
