Yoon Se-Ri is a heiress of a conglomerate as well as a wealthy CEO in South Korea. She is chosen to be the next CEO of her family’s company but disappears after a paragliding incident. She woke up to find herself in North Korea where she met Ri Jeong Hyeok, a North Korean army officer. Their paths become entangled as Ri Jeong Hyeok protects her and helps her to find her way back to South Korea.

3. Descendants of the Sun (2016) – A melodrama following the romance between a soldier and a surgeon amidst their dangerous missions in a fictional war-torn country. 

Captain Yoo Shi Jin is in the special forces in the South Korean army while Kand Mo Yeon is an emergency room doctor. Their paths cross because of a thief whom they had caught and sent to the hospital. Shi Jin is attracted to Mo Yeon and asks her on a date. However though, due to their work, they end up cancelling their plans multiple times and then their relationship ends before it begins because Mo Yeon feels that their jobs are so different cause she saves lives and he takes lives. They split up and go their separate ways to live separate lives.

Destiny brings them back together months after when Mo Yeon is forced to join a volunteer group going to a war-torn country to provide healthcare and the base they are to stay in happens to be the one Shi Jin was in. Sparks fly between them again and this time Mo Yeon decides to go with her heart.

5. My Mister (2018)- My Mister is a story of the unlikely bond between a middle-aged man and a young woman facing their struggles in life. Dong Hun is an engineer in a construction company. The Moon Embracing the Sun follows the life of King Lee Won and a female shaman named Wol. Lee Won first meets Wol when he is a young prince and falls in love with her. Wol was from a noble home and was one of the girls chosen to compete to be the crown princess. She was chosen and entered the palace In preparation for her to become the crown princess but was almost executed. She survived and lived as a Shaman. That night back at their hotel, they are unable to sleep so they decide to drink the wine. 10. Hotel Del Luna (2019)– Hotel Del Luna is a thrilling supernatural drama set in a hotel (Hotel Del Luna) for ghosts and those passing on to the afterlife. Jang Man Wol has been the CEO of the hotel for many years due to her past actions. She is very greedy and selfish. One night the soul of a thief who had been in an accident comes into the hotel. He was In a coma and should not have gone into the hotel. Man Wol confronts him and in exchange for letting him go, the thief promises her his son to work in her hotel. She accepts the offer and lets him go. 

Years after, the thief’s son, Koo Chan Sung, is a hotel manager. Man Wol approaches him to come work at her hotel because of the deal she had with his father but he refuses. She gifts him the ability to see ghosts and Chan Sung begins seeing ghosts which prevents him from resuming his new job at a multinational hotel. Soon he is forced to work in Hotel Del Luna as the hotel manager.

Koo Chan Sung and Jang Man Wol help ghosts get revenge and help accompany them to the afterlife.

Healer (2014-2015) – Healer is an action-packed romance that follows the life of Seo Jun Hoo, a mysterious night courier who would do anything for money and Chae Young Shin, an internet reporter who wishes to work as a respected journalist one day. There is also Kim Moon Ho, a popular journalist at a major broadcasting station. They find out that they share a common history. They also work together to uncover the truth about their parent’s death.

Jun Hoo and Young Shin get entangled in a dangerous conspiracy and in the process fall in love with each other. 

Healer is an intriguing kdrama with a blend of action, comedy, and a beautiful love story.

12. The Heirs (2013)- No matter how much we see it, lovers of rom-coms, like me, definitely do not get tired of the rich guy-poor girl trope and The Heirs is one of the best. The Heirs is a classic melodrama that follows the relationship between Kim Tan, a wealthy high school student and Cha Eun Sang, a poor high school girl.

Cha Eun Sang lives with her poor, mute mother and is unhappy with her life. She decides to leave her mom to live with her sister in the United States in the hopes of having a better life. Her hopes were dashed, however, when she got there to find out that her sister had been lying to them. She confronts her sister but she runs off with Eun Sang’s money instead. Soon after an incident occurs which brings her and Kim Tan together.

Tan had been living in the United States for years now because of his brother. He had been living a careless fun life but he misses his mom and his brother and would like to go back to Korea. He meets Eun Sang and they spend time together before Eun Sang goes back to South Korea. After she leaves, his home feels empty and the urge to go back home increases. Tan decides to go home only to find out that the maid’s daughter who lives in their house is Cha Eun Sang.

The Heirs is a tale of love complicated by family conflicts and social status.

13. Stairway to Heaven (2003-2004) – Stairway to Heaven is a tragic melodrama depicting the ill-fated love story between childhood friends torn apart by ambition, jealousy, and tragedy.

Song Joo and Jung Seo are childhood friends who grew up together. Their parents are very close and they grew up like twins, sharing everything and every moment. Song Joo had to leave to begin his business training because he is the heir to a multinational company. He and Jung Seo exchange necklaces. 

Years after, Song Joo returns from his studies to meet Jung Seo but unfortunately, Jung Seo gets into an accident which causes her to lose her memory and she does not recall anything including who Song Joo is.

Cha Do Hyun employs Oh Ri Gin to be his live-in psychiatrist and we get to see how Ri Gin navigates her interactions with Do Hyun’s other personalities. Cha Do Hyun and Oh Ri Gin later find out that they have an interconnected childhood.

15. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (2017)- Strong Woman Do Bong Soon follows the story of Do Bong Soon, a girl with a hereditary superhuman strength. She is unemployed and dreams of creating a video game. She meets An Min Hyuk after an altercation at a construction site where she beat up some thugs. Min Huk was impressed by this and hired her to be his bodyguard because he had been getting suspicious calls and threats from an unknown person.

An Min Hyuk and Do Bong Soon work together to uncover the person behind them. Meanwhile, women are being kidnapped in Bong Soon’s neighbourhood and she moves in to live with him. 

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is a quirky romantic comedy with lots of funny moments and heartwarming romance.

16. Boys Over Flowers (2009)- Another kdrama with the rich guy-poor girl trope and one of the most beloved k-dramas. It follows the life of a poor girl, Geum Jan Di, and the F-4 group.

Gu Jun Pyo is the leader of the F-4 and also the heir to the biggest, wealthiest, conglomerate in Korea- Shinhwa. The F-4 comprises 4 guys, including Yun Ji Hu, So Lee Jung and Song Woo Bin who rule Shinwa High, a school owned by Shinhwa Group. He does not interact with other people outside this group.

Geum Jan Di is the daughter of a dry cleaner who gets into Shinhwa High after saving a student’s life. She is disgusted by the actions of the F-4, especially Jun Pyo, but she is unable to stand up to him until an encounter with them and she humiliates Jun Pyo. This is the start of their relationship that moves from hate to love.

17. Coffee Prince (2007)- Coffee Prince revolves around the lives of the workers of the Coffee Prince coffee shop. Choi Han Gyul loves his job in the United States but he comes back to Korea to spend some time with his mom and Grandma. His grandma wants him to join the family business but Han Gyul is not interested. His grandma forces him to forces him to manage a rundown coffee shop and challenges him to triple the profit.

He names the coffee shop Coffee Prince and employs Ko Eun Chan, Jin Ha Lim, No Seon Ki and Hwang Min Yeom. And they all work together to increase Coffee Prince’s popularity and customers. 

Meanwhile, Han Gyul falls in love with Eun Chan but he’s very conflicted about his feelings because he thinks Eun Chan is a boy. He fights with his emotions thinking he is falling in love with a guy. Eun Chan also falls in love with him and is scared to tell him that she’s a girl but eventually, she gets the courage to reveal her secret.
