The potential of ocean waves is once again causing concern along the California coast. After experiencing massive surf that led to flooding and injuries just a week ago, dangerous waves are back, posing a threat of coastal flooding this weekend. Additionally, another round of high surf is expected later in the weekend for many beaches in California. To address these hazardous conditions, High Surf Advisories have been issued from San Diego County to San Luis Obispo County until Monday morning. The peak wave heights are anticipated on Thursday. According to the Surfline Pacific Forecast Manager, although California has seen a lack of precipitation this winter, the state is currently experiencing a "classic El NiƱo winter on the surf front." Last Saturday, a strong one-day rainstorm caused flood warnings and dangerous conditions on roads and beaches in Los Angeles and Orange counties. As a result, a high surf warning has been in effect until 10 p.m. Saturday for all Los Angeles County beaches. The National Weather Service forecasters have identified west-facing beaches like Hermosa, Manhattan, and Palos Verdes as the areas with the highest surf. Due to safety concerns, the Manhattan Beach Pier will remain closed until Sunday. The Los Angeles area can expect waves ranging from 10 to 15 feet, with some areas potentially experiencing even higher surf.
