“I’m going to have to politely decline. I appreciate the invite, however.”
“Hey. I always wanted to ask, do you not feel lonely when you do things alone? Why don’t you come out and do things with other people?”
“It is lonely at times, I’ll agree, but, it is far more lonely to spend time with people who don’t understand, and even more so when I’m told do just do it, to compromise myself to spend time with other people. On one hand, when I go and do things alone, once in a while, I will feel lonely. On the other hand, when I cut corners on my value of who I am, the loneliness isn’t from the people I’m spending the time with, although it does contribute, the loneliness stems from within. Something inside me doesn’t understand why I have gone against myself. Soon, I will lose trust in myself, begin searching for answers outside of myself, until one day, my voice is silenced. Many begin to wonder why things feel mundane, as if there is an indefinite void expanding within them, even though, they have followed the crowd. But it is because that void was created by you, and the only person responsible for filling it back up, is the person who created it in the first place. What it boils down to is: would I rather feel lonely once out of several days, weeks, months, maybe even years, or would I rather feel trapped in an inescapable prison, that I happen to have the key for escape without ever realizing?”
“I think I’m going to cancel. Do you mind if we kept talking?”
“Not at all, come now, sit. How are you, really?””
