The daunting days, long lethargic nights
Toiling in turmoil, deprived of food, of sleep
Away from home, from family, from love…
The hostel warden summons for the long-awaited call from home
Hearing Amma blabber, and Nanna.. well, just being Nanna
Never fails to be just that perfect tear trigger
Yet on the call we lie, “I’m fine Amma.. don’t worry!”
Getting back after ending the call, through the very crowded hostel hallways to the suffocating room
Consumed by lonelinessÂ
In fear, silently, we all cry.
First day of the tryst with aspirations
Hard work and sacrifices finally pay-off,
Dreams become visions, and visions reality,Â
The first step into the Medical College is embarked upon.
Learning the art of science from sources unlike,
From professors, from Nurses
From paramedics, from roommates
From the living, and from the dead
The urge to acquire and equip ourselves with knowledge and skills,
The absolute thrill in touching lives with the wisdom bestowed upon us
After another long tiring day at college and postings, back in the room
In joy, content, we all cry.
That moment when we are witness
To all the wonders Mother Nature has blessed us with
In bringing new life onto the earth, there is awe
In bringing a life out of the realms of death, there is fulfillment
In the eyes of loved ones, there is hope
In the smile of the relieved face of a child, there is bliss
Awe, fulfillment, hope, bliss
Give birth to the zeal to keep going
To keep touching lves in ways unfathomable.
Hard work and sacrifices pay-off yet again,
Things fall in place, everything has a meaning now
Everyday takes the soul closer to the essence of the being
Hours of work end in pure satisfaction.
In self-actualisation, peacefully, we all cry.
Masks on, PPE kits donned
Fighting demons, the ones invisible, the ones within
Looking brave in the face of terror
Putting ‘all’ above ‘us’
Shattering each time an uneventful news is to be disclosed, and worse
Dying inside each time fingers were pointed towards us
The daunting days, long lethargic nights
Toiling in turmoil, deprived of food, of sleep
Away from home, from family, from love…
On the ward floor, resting on the hospital stretcher, we sit
Fallen, tired, hit, abused, broken, in the dark
Let down, by the ones for whom we stand tall
Defeated by the demons, the ones invisible, the ones within
In grief,Â
In sheer helplessness, after giving it all, alas
In fear, silently, we all cry.Â
