“If you give something to someone and still expect to have a say over said gift, you aren’t gifting anything. You are imprisoning them. A gift is only a gift if all control over it is relinquished when the giver gives to the taker. Expectation for anything, whether it be respect or a gift in return or a service, is simply manipulation. That’s not giving for the sake of giving. That’s giving with the intention of an exchange.”
“But people won’t like me anymore…”
“People still don’t like you now. If they did, you wouldn’t have to conform to their norms and ideology that instinctually goes against who you are as a person, in order to find comradery and peace. They don’t like you for who you are. They like you because you changed yourself and who you are, to be just like them.”
“Then how? How do I change?”
“Shatter their gift. Until it becomes mere grains of sand. As you are at this moment, the reason things are not working is because other people are trying to tell you how to live your life. These things oppose your body, your mind, and even your soul. You make changes to yourself to align yourself with the ideas of others. You break parts of yourself, and replace them with incompatible parts, that in due time, will break down and fail.
