Allahabad (Prayagraj), is a city called different names where Prayag and Kaushambi are the two most popular ones. This holy city in Uttar Pradesh organizes the grandest and the largest religious festivals in India namely “Kumbh Mela” where thousands of devotees flock from different corners of the country. Allahabad has witnessed the days of administrative, cultural, and political influence when it was under the control of rulers of Hastinapur so the city holds a great historical as well as cultural importance in Allahabad tourism. Popularly called as “Land of Legends”, Allahabad is not only the native place of the Nehru family but also of some other legends this mystical land in UP boasts oodles of tourist destinations and I have tried to compile some of them in this article.

Check the list of some of the most popular and must-visit tourist places in Allahabad and these places are enlisted in the sightseeing trip of almost every Allahabad Tour Package.

Khusro Bagh:- The finest example of Mughal Architecture

Khusro Bagh In Allahabad

This quadrangle-shaped walled garden is an incredible tourist site in Allahabad which is spread over a huge area of almost 40 acres. Khusro Bagh is the location where the tombs of Shah Jahan’s family are established including the tomb of his eldest son, Prince Khusro, the other tomb belongs to Nesa Begum and Shah Begum. However, Khusro Mirza was a ruler of the Mughal dynasty but he never lived his life with ease and comfort and he had faced several worse days during his lifetime. This admiring place looks so stunning and gorgeous and this makes the place so crowded throughout the day.

  • Visiting time: 5am to 7pm
  • Visiting days: Throughout the week

Triveni Sangam:- The confluence point of three holy rivers

Allahabad Triveni Sangam

Reckoned one of the most prominent sacred sites in Allahabad, Triveni Sangam is always crowded with tourists. Being a confluence point of the three holiest rivers in India- Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, Triveni Sangam holds a great place in Hinduism and also in increasing Uttarakhand tourism. People thronging to this place come with an unflinching faith in washing away all their sins and freeing themselves from the cycle of birth and death. However, the place is crowded throughout the year yet during the grand celebration of Kumbh Mela, the number of tourists increases to a different extent.

  • Visiting time: throughout the day (watching the sunset view at this place is something that can’t be expressed in words).
  • Visiting days: any day of the week

Anand Bhawan:- The residential place of Nehrus

As stated in the introductory stanza Allahabad is the land of legends especially of the Nehru family and this can be witnessed on your visit to Anand Bhawan, the historical home of Nehrus. Being an important heritage of India, this two-storied house has been preserved very nicely and has been kept in the same way as it was before. Many of you must be aware of the fact that Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first prime minister of India was very fond of reading and so the house boasts of a library section where various books are kept. So, if you are the one who loves reading then you must not skip visiting this residential place of Nehru family.

  • Visiting time: the place is open for a public visit at 9:30 every morning and is kept open till 5 p.m.
  • Visiting days: every day

Allahabad Museum:- The place to boost your general knowledge

Allahabad Museum

If you are the one who loves knowing about different places and the stories and history associated with their origin then you must not skip visiting the Allahabad Museum which is believed to be one of the most maintained and organized museums in the country. No matter whether you are an archaeologist, researcher, history buff, or an academician, this museum has a lot to offer you and to enhance your knowledge of Indian history. The most important thing that one must know is that it is the only museum in India that generates its own energy with the help of solar power.

  • Visiting time: 10:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Visiting days: except Monday, the museum is open for all the days for public visits.

During Kumbh Mela Pilgrimage 2013, Allahabad, India

We have discussed a lot about places you can visit on your Allahabad (Prayagraj) tour that match your theme of a holiday like if you are visiting the city for a religious experience (as it is one of the best pilgrimage tour destinations in India) then Triveni Sangam, Bade Hanuman Temple, etc. should be in your Hindu Pilgrimage Tour Packages. Similarly, if you want to build your knowledge then Allahabad Fort, Allahabad Museum, and Allahabad Planetarium must be a part of your travel itinerary but I must say that this is not the end of Allahabad charm. The city is famous for its friendly nature and incomparable hospitality offered to its guests overall we can say that the city is perfect for every aspect of traveling.
